Dr. Chris Murphy and his staff uphold community involvement as an integral part of their practice. This year, Murphy Orthodontics will participate in the Arizona Animal Welfare League & SPCA’s 2013 Walk to Save Animals, and encourage patients and their families to join them to help “Take a Bite out of Homelessness.”
Phoenix, AZ – For one Phoenix-area orthodontist, giving back to the community is one of the most significant hallmarks of his practice. Dr. Chris Murphy believes that the commitment to local outreach at Murphy Orthodontics is one of the things that distinguishes them as a unique orthodontic treatment center. Over the years, Dr. Murphy and his team have both participated and sponsored numerous charity events, including the Ovarian Cancer Alliance of Arizona’s April Teal Trek, the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, and St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance. This year, when it came time to identify a cause, Dr. Murphy and his staff recognized the special place pets have in their lives, and the lives of many of their patients and Phoenix community.
“Each fall when we consider charities for the upcoming year’s Murphy Orthodontics’ Annual Charity Adoption Program, we discuss nominations from our staff and patients,” says Dr. Murphy. “The category of animal pet rescues was the unanimous choice. We are pet owners and are passionate about the value that pets add to our lives.”
On Saturday, Nov 9th, Dr. Murphy and his staff will participate in the Arizona Animal Welfare League & SPCA’s Walk to Save Animals, which will take place at Tempe Town Lake, Beach Park in Tempe, AZ. The money raised will go towards local shelters (many of which are overcrowded) for food and medical treatment of the animals. The Walk will also feature entertainment, food, exhibitors, prizes, and pet adoptions. “As pet lovers, we passionately believe in the noble cause of helping homeless pets find forever homes where they will no longer be abandoned, abused, or neglected,” says Dr. Murphy.
According to the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), only about 30 percent of pets in homes come from shelters and rescues. It’s also estimated that three to four million dogs and cats are euthanized each year in the United States. Dr. Murphy says that he hopes by participating in the Walk, it will help bring awareness to the community and promote caring for homeless animals.
In addition to the Walk, Murphy Orthodontics has found interactive ways since the start of the year to contribute to charities through patient participation. For every entry received in their patient contests, Dr. Murphy donates to a designated organization. This year’s organizations include the Arizona Humane Society, H.A.L.O Animal Rescue Shelter, Maricopa County Animal Care and Control, Arizona Animal Welfare League & SPCA, and the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure Foundation, among others.
“Our annual calendar of patient events and contests offers our patients a fun way to engage with us and build strong relationships,” says Dr. Murphy. “Bi-monthly contests provide a way for our patients to get to know us better, and vice versa. For example, in one of our earlier contests, patients were asked to match each team member with their pet. In our current contest, we have invited patients to submit their pet’s photo for sharing on Facebook and a chance to win a valuable prize. It is our hope that our patients and their families quickly come to feel part of our ‘Murphy Orthodontics Family.’”
Well-reputed for his orthodontic treatment for patients of all ages, Dr. Murphy and his staff believe in taking a personal approach to their patients that goes beyond the office. Establishing a caring and socially aware environment for the local community is something staff and patients at Murphy Orthodontics understand and enjoy. “We are passionate about the many good things that charities do which make our community a better place in which to live,” says Dr. Murphy. “Giving back is one way we can say ‘thank you,’ as well as honor our patients and their families. We are proud to say that our patients and families enthusiastically support our commitment to the community.”
